Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the EURION Cluster Annual Meeting 2021 was held virtually this year, taking place on 28-29 January 2021.
Open to the public, the morning session on 28 January provided highlights on the activities and results from each of the eight EURION Cluster projects. The projects are developing new testing and screening methods to identify endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). EDCs are chemicals which mimic natural hormones, that can produce adverse effects by disrupting the body’s endocrine (hormone) system. This hormone disruption can affect brain development, fertility, thyroid function, metabolism and therefore lead to medical disorders such as obesity, diabetes, breast cancer, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), irregular menstrual cycles and endometriosis, to name but a few.
